What Does a Server Do?

So, what exactly does a Server do? This question that most people ask, particularly if they aren’t technically savvy in that area. If you run a small business, you might not have a physical server yourself but you may in fact have some server software installed on your computers that is acting as a server or is using a web-hosting service.

What is a Server?

A server is central storage  for important data and programs that are used by the multiple users on a network, such as files, software applications like databases and email.

What does a Server do? A server provides services to computer(s) on a network. Without these servers, there would be no way for the users on the network to share resources with each other or access information from outside of their own computer without cables going directly into the Internet.

And web servers  host the websites that people visit when they need to find something online.
